We're seeking a Lab Support Technician for a contract position in Bristol. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain and ensure the availability of equipment for customer/sample demos, which is crucial for the company's success. Additionally, you will be responsible for keeping the Applications Laboratory Systems up and running, allowing for samples, customer demonstrations, and development work to be completed within agreed-upon timeframes. As a Lab Support Technician, you play a vital role in ensuring the laboratory operations run smoothly.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond quickly to emergency breakdowns. Provide technical troubleshooting and liaise with engineers /technicians. Ensure that effective and accurate communication is maintained between all relevant parties and ensure that information is fed back to the lab manager/senior members of the applications group and senior support staff so that all issues may be up-dated effectively.
  • Carry out test, installation, commissioning and fault finding of equipment including operation and maintenance.
  • Liaise with technical Support and Systems Engineering on any potential or actual system problems.
  • Provide a report of work done analysing time spent on issues.
  • Ensure that all Lab Systems are kept in a safe state via planned maintenance and safety audits.

 

Education/Qualifications:

  • Formal Electronic and Electrical qualification.
  • Substantial relevant experience and training.
  • Degree / HNC or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering discipline (preferred).

 

Professional Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of RF, Auto-match units, mains power including 3 phase power. Low voltages circuit, PLC and EN13849 safety circuitry
  • Ability to fault find to component level and implement corrective action an advantage
  • Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Knowledge of Brooks handling systems is an advantage
  • Knowledge of standard etch, and deposition process a major advantage
  • Knowledge of gas safety systems is an advantage
  • Uses interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in both one-to-one and group situations.
  • Recognises, and acts within, limits of own delegated authority.
  • Hands-on experience in technical equipment support ideally front-end wafer fabrication in the semiconductor or a related high-technology electronic/instrumentation sector.
