At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we provide tools for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures, with customers using our process solutions to research and produce materials and semiconductors vital for everything from medical devices and diagnostics, to electric cars and quantum computers.

 

We are looking for an experienced Development Engineer who is innovative, a good problem solver, enthusiastic and passionate about what they do.  You will be working as part of the newly created Product Development Support team, developing and improving our existing product platforms, delivering improved performance and reliability to exceed our customer expectations.

 

The Opportunity

As part of the Product Development Support team, you will be investigating complex engineering problems, validating design solutions and developing our products and processes on a continual basis.  You will be required to promote change,  manage small projects, develop test programs, improve manufacturability and performance of our products. Assist in introducing processes and modern techniques in order to support product development timelines and product releases

 

You will work across various teams within the business such as Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, NPI and Project Management Office. You will help to ensure that design solutions, testing and documentation is fit for purpose, suggest modifications where necessary, identify risks and implement risk mitigations. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

Product Engineering Issues on Released Platforms:

  • Provide technical assistance and support to ensure:

  • Selective engineering problems relating to design and or issues identified by customers are investigated in a thorough manner.
  • Identification of root causes. Follow the OIPT problem solving methodology or 8D RCA investigation tools where necessary.
  • Use appropriate and or initiate new build documentation to support the assembly and test plans.
  • Take ownership and ensure all reports and test data are archived and kept up to date.
  • Coordinate with other departments and consult to determine the appropriate containment and preventative measures and ensure manufacturing continuity and delivery schedule

 

Product Improvements and Product Correction Validation:

  • Provide technical assistance and support on product improvements and product corrections being implemented to ensure:           
  • From information provided by design team implement improvements to current released products including, control systems, plumbing, pneumatics and mechanical elements
  • Develop Test documentation to ensure product improvements are fully tested to ensure performance is appropriate and will meet customer expectations
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to production engineering and test department following any product improvement validation activities or outcomes from the product development team.
  • Support corrective action requests typically FRN (fault reports) and DP’s Deviation permits.
  • Provide feedback to design team as to the suitability and robustness of solutions, particular attention on DFM, DFA and DFS is required.
  • Products are manufactured and tested to the standards as set out in our documentation.
  • Support the Manufacturing engineering team to keep documentation (SOP, Instructions) up to date.

 

About you

A self-motivated individual who takes ownership and drives projects to completion together with great teamworking ethic and strong communications skills are required for you to be successful in this role.

 

HND qualification as a minimum (Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic disciplines).

 

Substantial experience in electro-mechanical systems production engineering environment. Capable of operating and testing complex manufacturing equipment including problem solving capabilities that include working on control,  instrumentation, fluid, gas, and pneumatic systems. Knowledge of Design validation methodologies, such as Design for Manufacture, Design for Assembly and Design for Service. You must be capable of developing unambiguous documentation and report in a concise and detailed manner to ensure product developments are fully validated upon release to customers.
