Improvement Lead (Operational Excellence)

At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we provide tools for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures, with customers using our process solutions to research and produce materials and semiconductors vital for everything from medical devices and diagnostics, to electric cars and quantum computers.


This role is key in supporting the delivery of Projects and Operational Excellence generally, across Plasma Technology. The purpose of this role is to improve performance and process by establishing best practice and applying this through continuous improvement projects aligned to the business strategy. You will be responsible for leading cross functional project teams to achieve successful delivery of improvement projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead improvement activities applying Lean Six Sigma skills to get to the root cause.
  • Drive improvements to the correct resolution with effective data analysis and project testing methods.
  • Apply Project Management practices to keep projects on track with milestones, deadlines and budgets.
  • To lead cross-functional teams with effective communication with team members and stakeholders. 
  • To lead process mapping workshops that capture all steps of a given process.
  • Support the defining and measuring phases of new projects to determine the project scope.
  • Active role with 6s audits across the site to develop improvement action plans and support functional managers to achieve high standards.
  • Provide regular project updates detailing progress to plan with any associated risks.
  • Participate as a team member in other projects with high levels of contribution.


Preferred Education / Qualifications:

  • Green belt in Lean Six Sigma or equivalent.
  • HND/HNC or equivalent

  • Project management capabilities.
  • Clarity of forward thinking & contingency planning.
  • Highly computer literate and capable of using software platforms.
  • Goal focussed, innovative & clear thinking under pressure.
  • Able to work on your own initiative, contribute to teams and build effective relationships with other functions in Plasma.
  • Adaptable at managing project uncertainty and risk mitigation.
  • Effective communicator with influencing and negotiating skills.
