Role: Spectroscopy Specialist

Location: US

Reports to: National Sales Manager

Andor’s integrated camera and spectroscopy solutions are instrumental in some of the world’s leading scientific research projects, like those projects we too are developing our portfolio to drive further into this scientific research space.

Key responsibilities:

  • Strengthen existing customer relationships and develop new business relationships within the US Spectroscopy research community.
  • Work to support US sales staff and distributors with technical and application expertise thus expanding the reach and business potential in the spectroscopy market
  • Develop the spectroscopy business within the US, in close collaboration with the local sales engineers, develop from our loyal customer base the different relevant research and OEM communities,
  • Leveraging your business development experience penetrate new academic and industrial accounts in the US and locate opportunities for research and OEM sales.
  • Develop and execute a US focused physical science competitive account strategy to create new opportunities for Andor Spectroscopy products replacing entrenched competitors.
  • These business development strategies should include on-line and in account technology, product and applications focused presentations with appropriate collateral tied to outreach campaigns to enrol interest
  • Cooperate with marketing on suitable outreach, presentations, collaterals, presentations and webinars
  • Be the expert in this field, partaking in proactive customer visits to promote the Andor spectroscopy portfolio, presentations, seminars and attendance at suitable conferences.
  • Internally participate in Commercial Execution Team activities to assist Product Management in defining and implementing sales and marketing strategies for each solution and service in the spectroscopy portfolio.
  • Evaluate product and service offering in terms of customers’ technical needs ensuring customers need is addressed and provided for in conjunction with sales team colleagues.
  • Maintain and market segment forecasts, potential sales, customer feedback and activity plan and other reports as required.
  • Provide product and application training to both sales staff, channel partners and end-users customers.
  • Establish and maintain strong industry contacts within spectroscopy community that support both industry knowledge and lead to sales.
  • Work with regional staff, HQ and other internal operations to establish a communication path with the customer.
  • Attend monthly sales meetings and offers feedback and suggestions to improve product solutions. Attend annual sales meeting.
  • Travel as required to meet and develop sales targets which is expected to be a minimum of 40% of time.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time by your Line Manager.


Indicative performance measures:

  • Work as the key driver to overall achievement of financial year targets for this market segment


  • Steadily grow customer base understanding, relationship, leads, funnel, opportunities and eventually bookings within the US


  • Work to engage and build far reaching and long-lasting relationships with a core list of academic and government institutes and centres throughout US, focusing on KOLs and groups who are working, using spectroscopy techniques for their science.
  • Report quarterly on US funding for spectroscopy research, developments and trends to then develop an US wide strategy to further penetrate this market



Person Specification (essential requirements unless stated):


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a Physical Science Discipline; Chemistry or Physics preferable degree programmes.


  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sales and/or technical role, with strong technical knowledge, understanding and application of spectroscopy required
  • Desired experience in the field of Optical instrumentation is preferable.
