The Opportunity

 

To provide technical support and training to customers across the NanoAnalysis product range, acting as first line contact to our customers. The individual will provide primary onsite technical and applications support to customers, and distributors across the Northern European and dealer territories regions. The role will be based in the North West of England and requires self motivation and excellent problem solving abilities. Time on customer site domestic/international is circa 70%.

 

 

About You

 

  • Science Degree/PhD preferably in Electronics, Physics, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Chemistry.
  • Knowledge within the microanalysis field, in particular, EDS/EBSD (Electron Back-Scatter Detection)/ NanoManipulators/WDS would be preferred.
  • Experience of running TEM/SEM would be an ideal.
  • Additional language would be an advantage.
  • A sound understanding of electronics and PC set up is essential.
  • The Individual should require the minimum of supervision and is subject to a flexible work pattern, which will involve global travel and / or working outside normal working hours when necessary.
  • The post holder is responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective use of their time. A recent graduate or experienced user of EDS/ EBSD/NanoManipulator/WDS Microanalysis equipment. Ability to work unsupervised and to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally interact with customers at all levels.

 

 

 

Key responsibilities for the Field Service Engineer

  • Perform onsite installations of systems and software.
  • Perform onsite preventative maintence visits.
  • Provide basic customer training at point of installation.  
  • Provide on site assistance to customers to resolve instrument breakdowns.
  • Provide technical support contact for the product range. Accepting customer telephone calls, logging problems, attempting to resolve problems over the telephone and by using remote control techniques, and gaining knowledge of the complete OI NA portfolio of products as appropriate.
  • Take ownership of customer problems and liaise with internal departments to resolve issues.
  • Receiving all initial calls in a positive, helpful and constructive manner and to communicate with the customers in a timely manner concerning the status of problems to ensure customer dissatisfaction does not occur.
  • Promote a positive image of Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis / Customer Support in all communications, whether in person, by telephone or written.
  • Advise customer on availability of instrumentation related options, upgrades and support contracts to keep the customer up to date and satisfied and optimise service revenue streams.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by manager.
