The Opportunity

 

As the Senior Supply Chain Specialist you will be responsible for supporting product life cycle and strategic supply chain and procurement activities.  Sourcing new components and new technologies to design requirements and providing robust input into design using DfX principles and supporting collaborative supplier involvement.  Defining, tracking, and coordinating strategic purchases to support life cycle changes such as component End of Life and mitigating supply constraints.  Support strategic procurement as and when required 

About You

 

The Senior Supply Chain Specialist will ideally have the following skill/attributes:

 

  • Completed A-levels with Level 4 or higher CIPS certification or relevant tertiary diploma/degree (relevant work experience would be considered)
  • Knowledge of purchasing concepts in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced working knowledge and use of ERP and MRP for BOM, scheduling, forecast analysis, and capacity planning
  • Operation and interpretation of MRP process
  • Work experience with New Product Introduction management
  • Work experience in developing category and supplier management strategies
  • Evidence of converting strategy into action
  • Computer literacy – good knowledge of Outlook, Excel and Word essential
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Ability to negotiate commercial terms
  • Ability to analyse cost effectiveness and make sound business decisions
  • A working knowledge of Kanban / Pull Systems/other JIT
  • Raising tenders, undertaking quotation assessment and ability to analyse costs in relation to market analysis
  • Experience of purchasing from global suppliers would be an advantage
  • Ability to effectively analyse and present numerical data 
  • Good communication skills with people at all levels
  • Able to work effectively within a team and build relationships
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise diverse responsibilities
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Understanding of Project Management concepts and tools.
  • Able to analysis complex problems and break it down into actionable elements.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts related to design for manufacture, pre-production, industrial engineering, purchasing and supply chain processes, integration, cost effectiveness, quality, and readiness for production.

Key responsibilities for the Senior Supply Chain Specialist

 

  • Be the Focal Point for the business for Supply Chain & procurement involvement.
  • Support the business in sourcing new components and new technologies while ensuring the operations objectives are met.
  • Developing own product & components knowledge as needed to support the business and own personal development.
  • Ensure the business needs are met using techniques such as DfX and ensuring a high level of Supplier Engagement and Collaboration throughout the business requirements. 
  • Find new and exciting solution to complex sourcing and supply challenges.
  • Define and maintain NPI procurement strategy supporting operations and overall business requirements.
  • Acts as liaison between the project teams and the responsible Supply Chain Specialists for all supply chain related items.  Thrive for early engagement building relationships across the business highlighting Supply Chain Strategies and those projects are incorporated into strategic plans and activities.
  • Supports and defines the process of ECR/ECO, (Engineering Change Requests/Orders) for the procurements function to ensure that timely reviews & analysis of changes are completed, and affectivity is managed and controlled to cycle the change both in and aim for zero material shortages, excess and obsolesce.
  • Support the Supply Chain Managers in developing and analysing data of the Supply Chains performance on OI’s business requirements, targets, and objectives. Review variations and outcomes in areas such as OTD, PPV, Quality, Demand Stability, Order Placement, Lead-times Supplier commitments etc, to drive operational efficiency within OI.
  • Supports the Supply Chain Manager in defining NPI and strategic procurement reporting to ensure that reports generate useful data which are prepared and issued on time.
  • Build a strong understanding of the MRP systems used within OINA in order to maximise usability and to fully exploit the capability of the system for improvement/performance initiatives.
  • Support the OINA demand planning process through demand analysis against order placement/delivery commitments.  Tracking NPI and strategic material requirements.
  • Proactively identify areas of focus for risk mitigation such as lead time and cost functions and propose and action well thought out mitigation across the supply chain team.
  • Negotiate commercial terms for new and existing parts (e.g. price, tooling, payment, delivery, order mechanisms) following Group Supply Chain and Ops Supply Chain Management for assigned commodities.
  • Work with the Supply Chain team to provide early warning of supply chain component risks and ensure these are highlighted and communicated to the project teams. Support the Supply Chain commodity leads to develop contingency strategy for high-risk components and suppliers.
  • Proactively ensure execution of PO placement to plan and be the Supply commodity expert.
  • Identify and drive make versus buy opportunities, value engineering activities and other cost reduction exercises.
  • Work with Supply Chain and Operations Teams on supply process definition and development.
  • Build and maintain relationships internally and externally.
  • Promote and develop a collaborative working relationship between the supplier and all parties in Oxford Instruments.
  • Provide purchasing support to departments within the business
