Asylum Research is looking to hire a Factory Service Engineer - Team Lead!

About the Opportunity: We have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced engineer to be a hands-on leader for our small but fast-paced service department in our Santa Barbara headquarters.  We need a technical, pragmatic individual who can perform timely and high-quality repairs for our global customers; and triage customer support inquiries by funneling requests through the appropriate channels.  You’ll apply your hardware, electronics and troubleshooting skills to ensure our customers are provided with the world class support they deserve and expect from the leading manufacturer of scanning probe microscopes and accessories.    


The Role

  • Perform timely and high-quality repairs for all AFM systems and accessories.
  • Provide excellent technical customer support via phone, chat, and email.
  • Manage the performance and engagement of the service team.  Assist or prioritize work for other Service Engineers and technical departments with support, troubleshooting, and other issues as needed. 
  • Propose and implement continuous improvements to service as an overall function through process optimization and creation of technical guides and documentation.


The Candidate

Successful candidates will have:

  • BS in technical/engineering discipline or AS with equivalent hands-on technical experience (5 years).
  • At least 5 years related experience and training using and troubleshooting high tech instrumentation. Experience with AFM/SPM highly desirable.
  • Excellent customer-facing interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.  Proven success in a lead or management role, either informal or formal.
  • Electronics troubleshooting/fault-finding skills and mechanical aptitude. Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Aptitude with soldering, oscilloscope, multimeter. Experience with spectrum analyzer and PCB microsoldering a plus.
  • A sound background in ERP systems and Microsoft Suite of products.
  • Ability to give train others and share technical information in an easy to understand format.
  • Ability to communicate and operate as a cross-functional team with operations, sales, service, applications, and other departments.
  • A hardworking and self-directed attitude with devotion to day-to-day prioritization of tasks for customer success; and unexpected alterations to timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
