About the Opportunity: 

The Finance Manager will focus on financial and commercial value drivers, providing pertinent financial and commercial advice, actively supporting the business and its customers. 

 

The Finance Manager has responsibility for understanding, communicating and acting on the financial performance of the busiess, supporting business functions, particularly product management and operations in driving value creation.  The role retains responsibility for the business numbers as well as all financial planning and forecasting, and the analysis of R&D and capital investment decisions.

 

Key Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

  • Develop annual budget, annual strategic growth plan, and monthly reforecasts in line with Group guardrails. Includes 3 statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement).
  • Operate as a key member of the Asylum leadership team, maintain effective working relationships across all departments
  • Maintain frequent communication with finance and Group management in OI head office as well as financial colleagues across the Oxford Instruments Group (may require occasional working early mornings (Europe).
  • Oversee divisional accounts receivable process and team member. Familiarity with letters of credit helpful.
  • Oversee divisional corporate credit card and expense reporting process.
  • Produce, understand, and communicate regular and ad-hoc reporting to divisional management and Group leadership including analysis and business insight
  • Work closely with product managers to understand all aspects of product strategy, utilising financial skills and strategic analysis to drive revenue and margin improvement initiatives. Support product managers on the identification and monitoring of key performance indicators for assessing the success of product strategy implementation. Provide financial analysis during new product introduction phase gate reviews.
  • Review of global and regional pricing strategies with recommendations to optimise pricing for value creation
  • Work closely with operations to create and deliver actions on key performance indicators to drive operational efficiencies and margin improvement
  • Support divisional strategic sourcing and procurement functions to drive projects
  • Provide pricing, financial terms, and analytical support to all contracts, tenders and projects, ensuring optimal pricing decisions that incorporate relevant risk profiles
  • Deliver financial assessment of R&D and capital expenditure projects, ensuring that business cases are complete and contain relevant sensitivity and stress testing. Monitor on-going projects to ensure benefits are being realised.
  • Responsible for export compliance for the Asylum business
  • Deliver an optimal cash management profile, driving value by effectively managing working capital and other aspects that impact cash flow
  • Responsible for annual royalty calculations and reporting, including development, review, and compliance with contracts.
  • Focus on analysis, interpretation and accounting judgement.  Retain ownership and responsibility for its data and information, engage Finance Operations to facilitate process compliance and quality of output. Review month-end close results to ensure completeness and accuracy, in conjunction with share service team.
  • Ensure that transaction initiation and approval is delegated and disseminated appropriately across the business to ensure maximum efficiency gains are realised
  • Monitor and understand divisional performance, working closely with management to use financial expertise to add value throughout the business.  Provide professional commentary and recommendations against performance metrics.  Undertake business planning and portfolio reviews.
  • Implement and comply with Group policy, controls and standardised processes
  • Provide financial and commercial advice supported by the identification, mitigation and management of financial, commercial and economic risk
  • In-person divisional financial operations duties, such as depositing checks, opening and triaging finance-related mail, updating quarterly risk register, facilitating vendor set-up with shared service teams, providing sales and use tax reporting to shared service teams, facilitating inventory cycle counts, supporting audit requests, submitting occasional census surveys, calculating and submitting property tax filings, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience of working at a senior divisional level
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills including valuation methodologies and use of key performance indicators
  • High level of energy and drive
  • Demonstrated delivery in a demanding multi-functional stakeholder environment
  • Strong commercial acumen, willing and able to improve on accepted practices and processes
  • Must be able to demonstrate the highest levels of personal integrity and professionalism and can demonstrate that they are reliable and apolitical with strong emotional awareness
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience interacting and presenting at a senior level
  • Ability to work independently and build relationships cross functionally.

Salary:

 

In accordance with California law, the expected salary for this full-time, benefited position is between $122,000 - $162,000, plus a management bonus. The actual compensation will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience and other factors permitted by law.
