Manufacturing Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity available for a skilled manufacturing engineer to develop and implement production process improvement, new product introduction into operations, cost reduction (including outsourcing), quality and delivery initiatives for our assembly and testing processes while maintaining a critical customer focus.  You’ll utilize your technical background to drive positive change in a low volume, high mix, high complexity environment.  This is a great opportunity for the right individual to dig into the details and transform the way we work as a high-tech manufacturer of advanced nanotechnology instrumentation. 


The Role

  • Own a wide range of internal cost reduction efforts from sourcing suppliers, maintaining long-lasting relationships based on cost improvement, to setting up outsourcing partnerships with external manufacturing facilities and troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
  • Participate in engineering development projects to provide DFX (manufacturing, test, cost) guidance
  • Generate specific Quality metrics, develop an understanding of the underlying issues and drive improvements.
  • Promote a world class environment of operational excellence and continuous improvement.  Be an advocate for change, process improvement and quality within the business.
  • Create and update work instructions and standard procedures for work centers.  Work with the manufacturing team to document their processes and to find and implement efficiency/quality improvements.
  • Research and develop proposals for new tooling and fixtures, including cost justification and payback analysis.
  • Support and instill a culture of process discipline and controlled change, in partnership with engineering and operations teams to deliver on desired results and engage everyone involved.


The Candidate

Successful candidates will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in technical engineering field, or equivalent practical experience; electrical engineering background or knowledge desired but not required
  • At least three to five years’ experience working as a manufacturing engineer in a capital equipment manufacturing environment; specific experience with quality systems and improving quality metrics desired
  • Hands-on production engineering or related support experience
  • Proficiency using ERP in a technical manufacturing environment (creating BOMs, POs, issuing jobs etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead and participate in problem solving and continuous improvement activities using methodologies like 8Ds, PDCA, DMAIC
  • A continuous improvement mindset and the desire/ability to drive positive change within the organization, and measure the impact of changes through metrics, quality to customer, and business targets.
