Primary Purpose:

We are looking for a SEM-EDS-EBSD Applications Scientist to join our Application Team. The role is based in Bangkok, Thailand, with frequent travel to customers across Southeast Asia.

The primary purpose of the Applications Scientist is to serve as an expert, providing technical expertise and support to both internal teams (Sales and Marketing) and external clients (customers and prospective customers). 

It is ideal for individuals passionate about advancing and communicating new applications and techniques.

Key responsibilities:

Business Development & Sales Support

• Key-account Customer Engagement: Identify and engage with key customer accounts, both current and potential to understand their analytical requirements and provide strategic technical input for business opportunities in Southeast Asia.
• Sales & Lead Management: Follow up on new inquiries, providing pre-sales experimental consultation and technical support to direct sales teams and distributors.
• OEM & Distributor Training Program: Develop and adapt training programs for OEM and distributor partners to align with market conditions and company goals.
• Marketing Support: Attend promotional events, including workshops, seminars, conferences, and exhibitions, to introduce our technology and identify key customers.
• Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and distributor partners.
• Demonstration Stock Oversight: Oversee demonstration and loan stock, ensuring efficient utilization and target achievement.

Technical Expertise & Application Development

• Customer Demonstrations & Reporting: Conduct customer demonstrations, workshops, and seminars, and produce well-written application and demonstration reports that clearly explain results and data.
• Application & Product Support: Provide expert application support to sales and service teams, advising on technical and scientific matters, including fielding technical questions, interpreting competitor claims, and contributing to marketing materials.
• Customer Technical Support: Offer expert technical support to customers via phone, email, and online platforms (WhatsApp and Line).
• Innovation & Documentation: Develop new applications and author technical notes, application notes, or scientific journal articles.
• Product Enhancement: Suggest product enhancements and report bugs or user interface issues.
• Cross-Instrument Applications: Understand the complementary analytical techniques (e.g. FIB, TEM, Raman, Nanoindentation, AFM and others) with EDS-EBSD and develop the correlative applications.

General & Operational

• Continuous Learning: Continuously expand knowledge of assigned products and their applications through ongoing training and assist in knowledge transfer to customers and colleagues.
• Professional Development: Participate in required training and development activities.
• Flexible Support: Undertake any other reasonable tasks or responsibilities as required by the Company, in line with the scope and level of the role.

Main working relationships:

• Reports to KAST I&A Application Manager and works closely to KAST applications.
• Works closely with SEA MA sales team.
• Works closely with Thailand customers and other customers in SEA.
• Works closely with HQ and Regional Marketing Teams.

In addition to the above-described duties, the post holder may be requested to perform other related duties.

Job Requirement

To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess a strong scientific background, extensive practical experience in advanced material characterization techniques, and excellent communication skills.

1. Education
   1. PhD Degree in Materials Science &Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, or Geology &Minerology Science.
2. Experience – Electron Microscopy & Microanalysis
   1. Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in microstructural characterization using SEM, EDS, and EBSD
   2. Minimum 3 year of hands-on experience in Dual Beam (FIB)
   3. Experience with TEM is considered an advantage
3. Preferred Technical Background (Advantageous)

Candidates with experience in the following areas will have a strong advantage:

1. 1. Mechanical testing such as nanoindentation, fatigue, and fracture analysis
   2. AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy)
   3. Raman spectroscopy, Raman imaging or Raman microscopy

4. Programming and PC skills:
   1. Familiar with MS Office and general PC operation
   2. Basic programming capability by Python or C/C++ is preferred

7. Travel Requirement
   1. Ability to travel internationally up to 50% of the working time
8. Communication & Presentation Skills
   1. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly
   2. Experience delivering technical presentations, demonstrations, or customer training is preferred
9. Language Proficiency
   1. Native Thai speaker is strongly preferred
   2. Fluent in English (spoken and written) is mandatory
   3. Fluency in any of the following languages would be a significant advantage: Chinese (Mandarin), Malay, and Vietnamese
