Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer

We are recruiting for a Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer who will report into the New Product Development Manager in Belfast.  The successful candidate will design, develop and maintain FPGA firmware for mixed signal scientific instrumentation and assist in DSP and Microprocessor software development for Atomic Force Microscope applications. The projects will be delivering into our sister company Asylum Research in Santa Barbara, California, while the job will be based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.


The Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer will have:

  • Degree in an engineering discipline with 5-years’ experience in FPGA firmware development
  • Experience developing solutions using FPGA design techniques using System Verilog, Verilog or VHDL
  • Experience in high-speed serial protocols, e.g. USB, PCIe, LVDS
  • Experience in comms interfaces, e.g. I2C, SPI
  • Experience designing and implementing digital filters, feedback loops, or other digital signal processing algorithms
  • Experience in development tools for Intel or Xilinx FPGAs


This is a permanent position based at our Belfast headquarters supporting projects for Asylum Research in Santa Barbara, USA. Andor operate a Hybrid working model allowing time split between home and office working, following a Belfast based onboarding period. The successful candidate will travel to Asylum Research partner site in Santa Barbara, USA several times a year for up to 2 weeks at a time and periodically align some work hours with USA west coast time for the purpose of review meetings.
