We are thrilled to announce a fantastic opportunity for a Facilities Technician Apprentice within our dynamic in-house Facilities Maintenance team! As the role holder, you will gain invaluable skills, knowledge, and experience, preparing you to become a fully qualified Facilities Maintenance Technician
Your daily tasks will involve maintaining and repairing critical infrastructure, equipment, and systems, ensuring they function smoothly and safely. You will also have the chance to collaborate with various partners who support our site operations. This role combines practical, hands-on tasks with the use of IT systems to keep essential records up to date. You will exemplify safe working practices and embody the Oxford Instrument Ways of Working (WoW). As an Apprentice, you will engage in continuous learning through formal training, compliance sessions, and hands-on experience with colleagues. Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance:
Assist with routine maintenance tasks, such as minor repairs, decorating, and plumbing, as well as helping to manage larger maintenance and/or building improvement projects. Maintenance of infrastructure including but not limited to pipework, ducting, HVAC, electric motors and pumps.
Keep the Building Management System updated.
- Cleaning and Upkeep:
Ensuring the site is kept clean and tidy, and managing waste disposal. We do have partners that are the primary support for cleaning and waste disposal. Maintain good housekeeping and 5S initiatives.
- Supplies:
Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of essential items not provided by our partners.
- Security:
Working with our Security Contractors to uphold building security, for example alarm checks, and monitoring fire safety systems.
- Health and Safety:
Learning about and contributing to health and safety procedures, including fire safety checks and emergency procedures.
- Site Operations:
Supporting the smooth running of the site, including managing heating and hot water systems.
- Contractors:
Liaising with contractors for various services, such as maintenance, cleaning, and security. Learn and comply with Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM), Safe Systems of Work, COSHH and contractor management procedures.
- Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably required by the Company.
- Take personal responsibility for your health and safety and for that of others who may be affected by your actions and behaviour. Comply with the Company’s arrangements for health, safety and environmental protection
Education / Qualifications:
- Minimum grade 6 Maths.
- Minimum Grade 5 English.
- Minimum Grade 5 Science.
Professional Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to engage with and work with colleagues, customers, contractors and partners.
- Problem-solving skills – identify and resolve issues that arise.
- Willingness to commit to studies to gain the required qualification and complete assignments to agreed deadlines.
- Technical skills: Developing skills in areas like basic repairs, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Problem-solving: Learning to identify and resolve issues that arise in the facility.
- Communication: continually improving communication skills through interactions with colleagues, contractors, and visitors.
- Teamwork: Learning to work effectively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
