Legal Counsel - Bristol 

 

We are currently seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team at Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology (OIPT). This role will be based at our brand-new purpose facility in Severn Beach, Bristol. As the Legal Counsel, you will report to the Finance Director and be responsible for managing the day-to-day legal affairs OIPT. You will also supervise the Legal Counsel (Contracts).

At OIPT, our mission is to lead the market in solutions for semiconductor device research and advanced fabrication, as well as specialised semiconductor device production. We achieve this through our "Destination World Class" strategy, which focuses on market and customer focus, operations excellence, value solution partnership, and talent and culture development.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general legal and commercial advice to OIPT, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts for the sale of goods and services.
  • Assist with responding to public procurement tenders and concluding sales paperwork and contracts.
  • Conduct risk assessments on contracts and ensure all necessary approvals are obtained.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate non-sales contracts such as agency and distributor agreements, consultancy agreements, studentship, and collaboration agreements.
  • Review and update processes and procedures for contract management and administration.
  • Support the Group Legal team with ad-hoc matters such as drafting contracts for the purchase of goods and services, preparing memorandums of understanding, and ensuring statutory compliance and governance requirements.
  • Ensure standard terms and conditions are incorporated into agreements with customers and suppliers.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining template standard documents.
  • Provide guidance and training to colleagues on contractual and compliance matters.
  • Maintain the highest standards of integrity and act as a trusted advisor to the management team.
  • Innovate wherever possible, devising new processes and ways of working to ensure efficient use of time and legal resource.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher qualification.
  • 2-4 years PQE as a UK qualified solicitor with relevant experience.
  • Experience working with other jurisdictions and in a complex matrixed organization.
  • Manufacturing or technology environment experience is desirable.
  • Line management experience is desirable.
  • Well-organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Proactive with a 'can-do' attitude.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
