Field Service Engineer, Gometz-la-Ville, France

 

The Opportunity

 

To install and provide ongoing maintenance of complex electro-mechanical and computer-controlled systems, primarily in France, Switzerland, Benelux, Spain and Portugal but for customers worldwide if and when required.  Establish and maintain a high degree of customer satisfaction and confidence by appropriate actions and attitude

 

About You

 

 

•           At least BAC+3(Licence) in Engineering (Electronic or Electrical) or Science (Physics, Chemistry, Material Science) or equivalent experience

•           Experience of dealing with customers, testing complex electro - mechanical systems and their customer applications. 

•           Problem solver under pressure.

•           PC experience both Hardware & software.

Analytical instrument or similar systems experience in one or more of the following, test / repair / field service.

•           Ideally experience of working with X-ray components or systems

•           Self motivated and can work effectively with little supervision.

•           Good communication skills

•           Able to carry out customer training and have an interest / knowledge of applications

•           Driving licence

•           EEC passport

  • No restrictions regarding overseas travel & length of stay.
  • Fluent in French, written and spoken is required

 

 

Key responsibilities for the Field Service Engineer

 

            The individual should require the minimum of supervision and is responsible for:

•           Installation and on-going maintenance of Electron microscope accessories such as EDS, WDS, EBSD, Nano-manipulators. These are complex electro-mechanical and computer-controlled systems primarily in France, Switzerland, Benelux, Spain and Portugal but for worldwide customers if or when required.

•           Installation and on-going maintenance of equipment installed in nuclear environment including systems operating in Hotcell’s.

•           Establishing and maintaining a high degree of customer satisfaction and confidence by his/her actions with an intention to exceed customer expectations at all times.

•           Maintaining & developing his / her knowledge of assigned products and their common applications, undertaking appropriate training where necessary.

•           Providing various technical reports such as Field Installation / Repair, incident review and corrective action requests together with administration reports such as Timesheet, installation & Expense within the agreed standards.

•           Supporting marketing/sales, furnishing leads for system sales, support contracts and other market intelligence whilst in contact with customers.

•           Assist in knowledge transfer by training customers and other company employees when required.

•           To be aware and minimise where possible the level of expense incurred in their day to day support activities, both in terms of time involved and parts consumed.

•           Perform his /her work safely at all times maintaining his knowledge of Health & Safety requirements including ionising Radiation where applicable.

           

            Main duties and responsibilities.

•           Responds to all support requests passed to him / her and is subject to a flexible work pattern which will involve travel and/or working outside normal working hours when necessary. 

•           Ensures the efficient use of their time.

•           Installs and ensures the correct operation of assigned systems, options and applications.

•           Ensures the customer is aware at all times, the correct method of operation to obtain safe working process, basic analytical results, and system care.

•           Trouble shoots and repairs all assigned systems to the appropriate level to ensure the system is returned to the full operation in accordance with its performance specification within a cost-effective time frame for Oxford Instruments and the customer.

•           Perform instrument verification in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

•           Ensures he/she controls costs generated by their actions.

•           Ensures all resources allocated to them e.g. Vehicle, tools, Spare parts test equipment are maintained in good condition.

           

            Customer Contact:

•           Communicate with the customers in a timely manner concerning the status of repair and or safety issues arising from work on their system to ensure customer dissatisfaction does not occur.

•           Promote a positive image of Oxford Instruments and OI Service in all communications with the customer, whether in person, by telephone or in writing.

•           Advises customer on availability of Oxford instruments related options, upgrades and service products including support contracts to keep the customer informed and satisfied.

         

           Field Reporting:

•           Initiates Field Service Reports for each customer visit/repair in order to document instrumental and/or customer problems and the resolution of those problems to provide data for installations, warranty and customer/instrument history.

•           Submit reports and information on recurring or potential problems.

            Reports and information to include suggestions, recommendations, and/or modifications to instrumentation, policies, manuals or concepts.

 

             Sales Assist:

•           To co-operate and communicate with the company’s Sales/department & Representatives.

 

            Main working relationships:

•           Reports to the appropriate Manager.

•           Works closely with sales representatives and management.

•           Works closely with customers.

•           Works with local Field Engineers, Technical Support and Product Support Specialists to resolve technical problems.

•           Liaise with spares logistic personnel to ensure availability of parts to cover both routine and emergency situations.
