Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products, Atomic Force Microscopes, Raman Microscopes and Benchtop NMR Products. We are part of the wider Oxford Instruments Group that also includes Andor Technology, NanoScience, Plasma Technology and X-Ray Technology. We are seeking a Buyer to join our operations team in High Wycombe. As a buyer your role is to order direct or indirect materials and services; management of nominated suppliers and to take responsibility for placing Purchase Orders, managing the open order lines, and expediting orders as required, as well as supporting tactical and operational effective supply chain through, maintenance/ housekeeping of MRP system.

 

Location:

We are based in High Wycombe (Cressex) and have hybrid working, which is 3 days in the office, with 2 days at home. Our working week is 37 hours, with flexible working hours and 12:30 Friday finishes.

About you:

  • Ability to effectively analyse and present numerical data.
  • Good communication skills with people at all levels.

  • Working knowledge and use of ERP or MRP for purchasing, scheduling, and forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Site purchasing of materials and services to ensure optimal cost and delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with key suppliers, learn about procured categories, and identify potential improvements.
  • Assess new and existing suppliers for relationship building or reducing business.
  • Work with Operations Teams to implement, maintain and develop Kanban, VMI and other JIT delivery systems to control levels of inventory and satisfy parts availability.
  • Prepare all relevant supply chain documentation for quotations, incl. SOPs & test documentation where applicable.
  • Provide early warning of supply chain component risks, highlighting these and communicating to management.
  • Participate in contract development with key suppliers.
  • Support supply chain to ensure new parts for projects are available for prototype, pre-production and product launch.
  • Daily review of MRP systems requirements, challenging messages that appear unusual.
  • Develop and manage vendor relationships with the objective of developing Quality, Cost and Delivery performance.
  • Distribute vendor Balanced Scorecard reports (Quality/Delivery/Cost) to achieve best practice targets.
  • Assist in MRB & Vendor Return process.
  • Build relationships with OI Group Operations personnel and other site Buyers.
  • Any other tasks associated with this role but not necessarily mentioned within this profile
