Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products, Atomic Force Microscopes, Raman Microscopes and Benchtop NMR Products. We are part of the wider Oxford Instruments Group that also includes Andor Technology, NanoScience, Plasma Technology and X-Ray Technology. We are seeking an NMR Expert (Technologist) to join our New Product Development team based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver technology innovations for future NMR product requirements, and, to investigate and provide solutions for technical issues with existing products.  

 

Location:

We are based in High Wycombe (Cressex) and have hybrid working, which is 3 days in the office, with 2 days at home. Our working week is 37 hours, with flexible working hours and 12:30 Friday finishes.

What we are looking for…

  • An appropriate degree in Physical Science or Engineering
  • Ideally - Further Degree in Physical Science or Engineering High level of competence with NMR hardware and familiarity at the system level, ideally with the ability to diagnose hardware behaviours and faults at the sub-modular level.
  • Proven ability to identify a path of investigation and to align experimental work with theoretical concepts
  • Familiar with modern testing and diagnostic methodologies and equipment.
  • Ability to identify and implement safe working procedures (COSHH, (pressurised) fluid systems, electrical safety, magnetic safety, etc.)
  • Knowledge of intellectual property concerns, FTO principles, and the ability to document and communicate technical ideas during the patent process 
  • Ability to translate complex technical expertise to others

Other Responsibilities

  • Deliver technology enhancements in accordance with agreed specifications, budgets and time scales. May include interim deliverables such as feasibility studies, cost estimates, prototypes and proposed production methods.
  • Contribute to technology and development projects as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional awareness of relevant technology developments.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for existing products.
  • Operate at all times in accordance with health & safety at work legislation.
