Service Delivery Engineer – 1st Line IT Support

Location: High Wycombe
Career level: Entry level / early career

Are you looking to build your career in IT support, desktop support or IT service delivery?

We’re looking for a Service Delivery Engineer to join Oxford Instruments and provide first-line IT support to colleagues across the business. This is a great opportunity for someone at the beginning of their IT career who enjoys solving problems, helping people and developing their technical skills in a global organisation.

Working as part of our IT team, you’ll support colleagues with everyday technology issues across Microsoft Windows, Microsoft 365, laptops, desktops, mobile devices and workplace technology, while gaining experience across a broad IT environment.

What will you be doing?

As a Service Delivery Engineer, you’ll be one of the first points of contact when colleagues need IT support. You’ll help diagnose and resolve technical issues, manage support tickets and make sure users receive a professional and helpful service.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing first-line IT and desktop support to colleagues.
  • Troubleshooting issues with Windows PCs, laptops, mobile devices and peripherals.
  • Supporting Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel.
  • Helping with user accounts, password resets, access requests and onboarding activities.
  • Logging, managing and prioritising incidents and service requests.
  • Owning support tickets through to resolution and escalating more complex issues when needed.
  • Providing basic support for networking, printers, remote access and business applications.
  • Keeping users updated while their support requests are being resolved.
  • Creating and improving IT knowledge articles and self-service documentation.
  • Working with wider infrastructure teams and suppliers.
  • Getting involved in IT projects and continuous improvement activities as your experience develops.

What are we looking for?

You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in technology, good problem-solving skills and, most importantly, a desire to provide a great experience for the people you support.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Some previous experience in an IT service desk, helpdesk, desktop support or technical support environment.
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365.
  • Strong customer service skills and a helpful, approachable communication style.
  • The ability to troubleshoot problems logically and find practical solutions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a global IT team.

Why this role?

This is an ideal opportunity if you’re in the early stages of your IT career and want to develop practical experience within a global organisation.

You’ll gain exposure to a broad range of workplace technologies and work alongside experienced IT colleagues, infrastructure teams and suppliers, while contributing to projects, service improvements and the day-to-day technology experience of our employees.
