Our Materials Analysis group, consisting of the Asylum Research, Magnetic Resonance, NanoAnalysis and WITec business units, combines products and solutions to support a broad range of end markets and application segments for all our customers’ materials analysis needs. The product portfolio within the Material Analysis group will enable our customers to address some of the world’s most pressing sustainability challenges by using our products and services to analyse and characterise materials – chemistry, structure and many physical properties.

We are looking for a Raman Applications Scientist to join our Application Team. The role is based in Singapore with frequent travel to customers across Southeast Asia. The primary purpose of the Applications Scientist is to serve as an expert, providing technical expertise and support to both internal teams (Sales and Marketing) and external clients (customers and prospective customers).

Key responsibilities:

Business Development & Sales Support

  • Key-account Customer Engagement: Identify and engage with key customer accounts, both current and potential to understand their analytical requirements and provide strategic technical input for business opportunities in Southeast Asia.
  • Sales & Lead Management: Follow up on new inquiries, providing pre-sales experimental consultation and technical support to direct sales teams and distributors.
  • Distributor Training Program: Develop and adapt training programs for distributor partners to align with market conditions and company goals.
  • Marketing Support: Attend promotional events, including workshops, seminars, conferences, and exhibitions, to introduce our technology and identify key customers.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers and distributor partners.
  • Demonstration Stock Oversight: Oversee demonstration and loan stock, ensuring efficient utilization and target achievement.

Technical Expertise & Application Development

  • Customer Demonstrations & Reporting: Conduct customer demonstrations, workshops, and seminars, and produce well-written application and demonstration reports that clearly explain results and data.
  • Application & Product Support: Provide expert application support to sales and service teams, advising on technical and scientific matters, including fielding technical questions, interpreting competitor claims, and contributing to marketing materials.
  • Customer Technical Support: Offer expert technical support to customers via phone, email, and online platforms (WhatsApp and Line).
  • Innovation & Documentation: Develop new applications and techniques and author technical notes, application notes, or scientific journal articles.
  • Product Enhancement: Suggest product enhancements and report bugs or user interface issues.
  • Cross-Instrument Applications: Understand the complementary analytical techniques (e.g., AFM, SEM, EDS, EBSD and others) with Raman and develop the correlative applications.

General & Operational

  • Continuous Learning: Continuously expand knowledge of assigned products and their applications through ongoing training and assist in knowledge transfer to customers and colleagues.
  • Professional Development: Participate in required training and development activities.
  • Flexible Support: Undertake any other reasonable tasks or responsibilities as required by the Company, in line with the scope and level of the role.

Job Requirement

 

To be successful in this role, the candidate must possess a strong scientific background, extensive practical experience, and excellent communication skills.

 

  1. Education: PhD Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Materials Engineering, or Bio Science.
  2. Experience - Raman: Must have at least 5 years’ hands-on experience working with Raman, Raman imaging, or microscopy background in an application or research setting.
  3. Experience – AFM: AFM experience on materials characterization is highly desired.
  4. Additional Technical Skills (Advantageous):
    1. Experience in mechanical testing, especially nanoindentation, fatigue, and fracture or
    2. Experience in microstructural characterization such as SEM, EDS, and EBSD
  5. Personal Attributes:

  7. Travel: Ability to travel internationally up to 50% of the working time.
  8. Communication & Presentation Skills:
    1. Ability to deliver effective technical presentations to internal and external audiences.
    2. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly
  9. Proficient PC skills including MS Office
  10. Language Proficiency:
    1. Fluent in English (spoken and written) is mandatory
    2. Fluency in any of the following languages would be a significant advantage: Chinese (Mandarin), Malay, Thai, or Vietnamese.
